Mickey Murray
People Are Together
Secret Stash is proud to present the first ever reissue of this lost gem from 1970. MICKEY MURRAY had a million selling single in 1967 with the song “Shout Bamalama” on SSS International. In ’69 he was signed to King Records. The label was preparing for the loss of James Brown. They knew they couldn’t afford to sign another star of Brown’s stature, so they decided to mold Mickey into one. King intended on making Mickey the next James Brown. They recorded this LP with Murray for release on their Federal imprint. The lead single carried an extremely provocative message of racial equality. The black DJs they relied on in south to support the record refused to play it as they feared for their jobs if they did. The record was quickly abandoned by the label. According to Murray, the album was never released for retail sale. If you’ve ever been lucky enough to stumble over a copy in your digging excursions, odds are it was marked as a promo. Hand numbered edition housed in resealable dust bags with free download.
