Oh we haven't been caught by a record like this in a long time. Every single song on it is one of those songs that makes you buzz with excitement, that "oh I'm definitely putting this on my next mixtape" feeling, but every one! I'm not sure if all the psych jams made me forget that Sonic Youth could write pop songs like this, but it's all "Catholic Block"/"Teenage Riot" breathcatching stuff, not big and swaggering, just cool, melodic and head turning. Still risk-takers, there are plenty of uneasy tunings, sudden turns and too-honest moments, but that's part of what makes it such an epic success, this isn't cotton candy, just free and easy sugar, it's some fantastic undiscovered fruit from so far away, juice running down your elbow, pulp showing between your grin-exposed teeth as you run off to share with a friend.
